After six weeks of travelling around Canada together, Matt had been secretly carrying an engagement ring, waiting for the perfect moment to propose to Jess. That moment finally came in beautiful Tofino, BC, a surf town they had previously traveled together to before moving to Australia.

In what now seems like a very obvious hint, Matt told Jess before their hike to “maybe wear something nice”… to which she replied, “It’s a hike. It’s muddy up there. Why would I wear something nice?” Completely clueless to what was about to happen, Jess headed off in full hiking mode while Matt quietly panicked holding a backpack containing a ring he’d been hiding for three months.

At the top of the mountain, overlooking the ocean, endless mountains, and the dreamiest sunset, Matt finally got down on one knee surrounded by some of their closest friends. It was the easiest ‘yes’ from Jess!

And as if the day wasn’t already unbelievable enough, while celebrating their engagement that night, the Northern Lights appeared overhead, putting on a show of their own. Between the happy tears, champagne, salty air, it became a moment they’ll never forget.
